Are you controlled by fear? That is the craziest question anyone can ask and I am asking it. Today it is very easy to fall victim to fear without even knowing it. The fear of success, the fear of failure, the fear of being alone. The list can go on endlessly. Anyone can take a look at their life and ask that very question.

I have a friend that was put into a scary situation and she let it define her actions. She was completely terrified, with just cause. However, it took all that she had inside of her and made her terrified to do the normal everyday activities. Being terrified to do your normal activities is fear at the highest degree.

There are other types of fear. For instance, I was terrified of failure. The failure to succeed at a new venture often determined what I would do in life. I had life experiences that help shape this fear into not trying anything new that was not the “normal” thing. Anything in the arts was outside the normal for me. Although, I may have had talents it was those around me that placed their expectations on me that working in the arts is not a real career.

It wasn’t until the I had the strong desire within me to do what I truly enjoy doing which lead to me breaking down the walls I let people put in front of me.

So what are you letting control you? Hey, if you have been fortunate to not experience any of these feelings. That is awesome!!

Here are a few questions you can ask yourself by taking my “Controlled by Fear” test. (Disclaimer: I am not a licensed therapist. I am a woman of many experiences that has given me knowledge on the subject to help others if they choose to listen.)

  1. Are you in the career you want to be in? Are you taking steps to get yourself in that career?
  2. Do you find yourself walking across the street when you notice someone who appears to be strange in your eyes?
  3.  Women, Do you find yourself clinching your purse when someone is approaching your general area?

If you answered yes to one or more questions, it is safe to say there is an underling issue with fear or just plainly saying  you get an uncomfortable feeling inside. The good news is that all people experience this. Again, these are my opinions. My life experiences have taught me these valuable lessons the hard way.

I would encourage you to fulfill your God-given destiny if you’re not already doing it. I know I am.
