Summer Tip #2, Concerts in the Park. Nothing is more fun like a free concert in the park. All local parks around Southern California are producing concerts in the park during the summer. It is a great way to get the family out and enjoy the cultural arts. For a listing in your area, look up concerts in the park in your city and see what is available for you and the family to enjoy.
Yes, some parks here in California do charge for admission to the concert in the park. However, only when they have a headliner scheduled. For instance, Ozomatli a Latin Fusion band from Los Angeles will be performing at one of the parks here in Los Angeles. The park they are performing at is charging a small fee to the event. I think a small fee is not much to ask to take my whole family to enjoy some great music.
You can pack a nice picnic basket and blankets to take with you to the park. My husband loves to grad a chair with a cup holder. Which is a great suggestion if you have someone who will be joining you with a bad back or knees, etc so they do not have to sit down on the grass.
I will say this kids love a good concert in the park. We are talking good music, food, fun, & dancing all of this is right up a kids alley.
Here is a list of local concerts in the park here is LA.
- Ozomatli at the Starlight Bowl in Burbank, CA, Sunday, July 10th. Concert starts at 6:30 pm, parking open at 4:30 pm. Granted the Starlight Bowl is not a park, but it is a lot of fun. General tickets are on sale now. I would grab mine before it’s too late.
- 5th Annual Uptown Latin Jazz Festival at Houghton Park, in Long Beach, CA. This event is happening June 11th, 12 pm-8 pm. This event is featuring artist Goapele & DW3. There will be music, booths, a kids area and more.
- Beatles and Rolling Stones Tribute at Heritage Park in Cerritos, CA, Thursday, July 21st at 7 pm. For those who would love to see the Beatles vs. the Stones.
- Desperado, a tribute to the Eagles at Boisseranc Park in Buena Park, CA. They will be kicking off this event today, June 8th at 7 pm.
I hope these give you a few good ideas to check out. If your city is not listed and these are too far, please go to google and look for an event near you. I am sure you will be able to find a concert you and your family will enjoy.
