1st day special meal

It’s back to school time and another school year is starting. What is on the menu plan for breakfast the first day of school? Do you have your traditions? Are you the mom that wants to be that ’50s mom, all Ossie and Harriet?

Well, I’m not the “50’s Mom.” I do have some traditions that I started about two years ago. I started making my kids Mickey Mouse pancakes with Nutella for breakfast on the first day of school.

I don’t know about you, but I love Mickey. I always dreamed about making my kids Mickey Mouse pancakes for breakfast. Ok, so I didn’t get the idea until I saw a Mickey Mouse pancake maker in a brochure for some department store when I was in my early 20’s. I thought that would the coolest thing to do if I were ever to become a mother.

My mother certainly didn’t do that for me when I was a kid. I wanted to be different.

I finally got the chance to do so. I looked all around for that Mickey Mouse item I wanted for years. One day, I walk into a high-end Ralph’s market in Burbank, CA and there it was. On a routine run into the store before work to grab something to eat for breakfast it was staring me in the face. All these years later and there it was. A beautiful Mickey Mouse waffle making machine.

imageI had to buy it!! Who wouldn’t. After wanting for a good fifteen-sixteen years. My kids love everything Mickey. I may love it a little-bit more though.

There isn’t a lot of work that comes with using this product. It’s super easy for someone who may not want to do a lot of cooking in the morning before school.

This is my go to breakfast for the first day of school. When I break this out the kids know it’s special. I usually only use it for what we would call a “special occasion.” For instance, the First Day of the new school year, Birthday’s, and “just because” days. Our just because days are just that. Just because I want to give the kids something extra special to them.

I hope this inspires you to start a new tradition for your family if you don’t have any already.
